Facelift in Istanbul: Facial Rejuvenation Surgery, Natural-Looking Results, and Medical Tourism in Turkey

The effects of facial aging do not always appear solely as wrinkles. Over time, the downward displacement of cheek tissues, loss of jawline definition, sagging around the corners of the mouth, and looseness in the neck area can change the overall expression of the face. These changes may cause individuals to appear older or more tired than they feel.

Facelift in Istanbul, also known as facial rejuvenation or facelift surgery, is one of the surgical procedures considered to correct age-related sagging of facial tissues and restore the natural contours of the face.

For patients living abroad who are planning facial aesthetic surgery in Turkey, Istanbul is among the cities considered because of its international transportation connections and healthcare services. However, achieving an appropriate facelift result depends not only on tightening the skin but also on accurately evaluating the deeper anatomical structures of the face.

During a facial aesthetic consultation with Op. Dr. Behçet Şahin, it is important to develop an individualized surgical plan based on the patient’s aging characteristics, facial anatomy, skin quality, and expectations.

What Is a Facelift? What Changes Can Facelift Surgery Achieve?

A facelift, medically known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure intended to correct age-related tissue sagging in certain areas of the face.

As the face ages, not only does skin elasticity decrease, but the underlying supporting tissues, fat compartments, and ligament structures also undergo changes. These changes may become particularly noticeable in the midface and lower face.

The goal of facelift surgery is to evaluate these anatomical changes and restore facial contours accordingly.

In suitable patients, facelift surgery may be planned to address the following concerns:

• Downward displacement of cheek tissues
• Loss of jawline definition
• Sagging around the corners of the mouth and along the jawline
• Skin and tissue laxity in the lower face
• Loss of definition between the face and neck
• Age-related changes in facial contours

However, facelift surgery does not eliminate every wrinkle. Fine superficial lines, skin pigmentation concerns, and skin texture problems may require different treatments.

Why Do Patients Choose Facelift Surgery in Istanbul?

Turkey is among the countries researched by international patients for aesthetic surgery and medical tourism. Istanbul, with its international flight connections, offers convenient access for patients traveling from abroad.

Individuals living in Europe who are considering facial rejuvenation surgery may compare surgeons, treatment methods, and postoperative services available in Istanbul.

However, when researching facelift surgery in Istanbul, decisions should not be based solely on price, accommodation, or ease of travel.

A facelift is a comprehensive surgical procedure that may involve the deeper anatomical structures of the face. Therefore, the surgeon’s experience with the relevant techniques, the patient’s anatomical needs, and postoperative follow-up are important considerations.

For international patients, the treatment plan should be approached comprehensively, from the preoperative assessment through follow-up care after returning home.

How Is a Natural Appearance Preserved During Facelift Surgery?

One of the main concerns among patients considering facelift surgery is that their face may appear excessively tight or artificial after the operation.

However, the goal of modern facelift surgery is not simply to tighten the skin as much as possible.

The anatomical structures responsible for facial sagging should be identified, and the surgical procedure should be planned accordingly.

The anatomical relationships between the deeper facial tissues and the skin are important for preserving natural facial movements and expressions.

By evaluating the position of the cheeks, the jawline, and the transition between the face and neck together, a more balanced facial rejuvenation plan can be developed.

The goal of a natural-looking facelift is not to completely change a person’s face, but to correct age-related sagging while preserving their distinctive facial features.

During a consultation with Op. Dr. Behçet Şahin, the overall facial proportions and the areas most affected by aging should also be taken into consideration.

What Are the Different Facelift Techniques?

The techniques used in facelift surgery vary according to the anatomical layers involved and the extent of the surgical procedure.

Not every patient requires the same approach.

SMAS Facelift

SMAS stands for the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, a layer of supporting tissue located beneath the facial skin.

SMAS facelift techniques involve surgical approaches designed to reposition the supporting tissues of the face.

Different SMAS techniques may be considered, particularly for correcting sagging in the lower face and along the jawline.

The surgical plan is determined according to the patient’s tissue characteristics and the degree of sagging.

Deep Plane Facelift

A Deep Plane Facelift is a facial rejuvenation technique performed within deeper anatomical planes of the face.

This approach aims to release certain retaining ligaments and reposition facial tissues.

It may be considered particularly for patients who require correction of tissue displacement in both the midface and lower face.

However, a Deep Plane Facelift is not necessary for every patient, nor is it automatically superior to other methods in all circumstances.

The choice of technique should be based on the patient’s anatomical needs and the surgeon’s assessment.

Mini Facelift

The term mini facelift is generally used to describe more limited surgical procedures.

However, a mini facelift is not a single standardized surgical technique. The extent of the procedure and the tissues involved may vary.

It may be considered for patients with mild sagging or laxity limited to certain facial areas.

Patients with more pronounced facial and neck laxity may require more extensive surgical approaches.

What Is the Difference Between a Deep Plane Facelift and a Traditional Facelift?

Patients considering traveling to Turkey for facelift surgery are often interested in the differences between Deep Plane Facelift and traditional facelift techniques.

The primary difference lies in the anatomical planes where surgery is performed and the way facial tissues are repositioned.

In a Deep Plane Facelift, certain facial tissues are released and mobilized within a deeper anatomical plane.

In other SMAS-based facelift approaches, supporting tissues may be repositioned using different surgical techniques.

However, whether the results appear natural or remain effective over time does not depend solely on the name of the technique.

The surgeon’s anatomical assessment, accurate execution of the procedure, and the patient’s tissue characteristics are also important.

During a facelift consultation with Op. Dr. Behçet Şahin, the most appropriate surgical approach should be determined according to the patient’s facial structure and signs of aging.

What Is the Best Age for Facelift Surgery?

There is no single ideal age for facelift surgery that applies to everyone. Signs of facial aging vary from person to person.

Genetics, skin quality, sun exposure, smoking, and facial anatomy can all influence this process.

Some individuals develop noticeable lower facial sagging at a younger age, while others experience only limited changes until later in life.

Therefore, suitability for a facelift should not be determined solely by chronological age.

The deciding factor in facelift surgery is not the patient’s age, but whether the existing anatomical changes warrant surgical intervention.

Overall health and expectations regarding surgery are also important parts of the decision-making process.

How Is Facelift Surgery Performed in Istanbul?

The extent of facelift surgery varies according to the surgical technique selected and the patient’s individual needs.

The operation is generally performed under general anesthesia.

Surgical incisions are usually planned along the natural anatomical boundaries around the ears. Some techniques may also involve additional incisions within the hair-bearing scalp or behind the ears.

During surgery, the supporting tissues of the face may be repositioned, and excess skin may be adjusted or removed when necessary.

However, the details of the procedure vary depending on the patient’s anatomy.

The goal of facelift surgery is not merely to tighten the surface of the skin, but to reposition tissues that have shifted with aging into more appropriate anatomical positions.

The Treatment Process for International Patients Traveling to Istanbul for a Facelift

For international patients planning facelift surgery in Turkey, organizing the treatment process in advance is important.

Patients traveling from different countries should coordinate their preoperative assessment, accommodation, and recovery period.

Pre-Travel Assessment

During the initial stage, information may be collected about the patient’s medical history, medications, and aesthetic expectations.

An online preliminary consultation using photographs may help discuss possible surgical options.

However, a detailed assessment of skin elasticity, facial tissue mobility, and anatomical sagging requires a physical examination.

Consultation and Surgical Planning in Istanbul

During the in-person consultation, the patient’s facial anatomy, areas of sagging, and overall health are evaluated.

The proposed surgical technique, extent of the operation, and potential risks should be discussed at this stage.

Postoperative Follow-Up

Swelling, bruising, and a sensation of tightness may occur during the first few days after facelift surgery.

It is important for international patients to complete the necessary follow-up appointments before traveling home and to obtain their surgeon’s assessment regarding their fitness to travel.

How Long Does Recovery Take After a Facelift?

Recovery following facelift surgery varies depending on the technique used and the patient’s tissue characteristics.

During the first few days, swelling, bruising, tenderness, and tightness may occur in the face and neck.

A significant portion of the visible swelling and bruising may decrease within the first two to three weeks. However, this timeframe varies among patients.

Healing of the deeper tissues and the final settling of facial contours may take several months.

Surgical scars may require an even longer period to mature.

It is important to follow postoperative care instructions, avoid strenuous physical activities for the recommended period, and attend scheduled follow-up appointments.

What Determines Facelift Prices in Istanbul?

Facelift prices in Istanbul may vary according to the surgical technique used and the extent of the procedure.

Different approaches, such as mini facelift, SMAS facelift, and Deep Plane Facelift, have different surgical requirements.

Factors that may affect the cost include the extent of surgery, additional procedures such as a neck lift, anesthesia, hospital facilities, and postoperative services.

For international patients, it is also important to determine whether accommodation and transportation are included in the total cost.

However, the decision to undergo surgery should not be based solely on price.

What matters in facelift surgery is performing a surgical plan appropriate to the patient’s needs under safe medical conditions.

How Long Do Facelift Results Last?

Facelift surgery does not stop the aging process.

However, in suitable patients, repositioning facial tissues can provide long-lasting aesthetic improvements.

The duration of the results may vary depending on genetics, skin characteristics, lifestyle habits, and the surgical technique used.

Age-related changes in facial tissues continue over time.

Therefore, patients should not expect their face to maintain exactly the same appearance throughout their lifetime after facelift surgery.

Facelift in Istanbul: Restoring the Natural Contours of the Face

Facelift surgery requires a detailed assessment not only for patients who wish to look younger, but also for those who want to understand the anatomical causes of age-related facial changes.

It is particularly important for international patients planning to travel to Turkey for facelift surgery to have sufficient information about surgical techniques, recovery, and postoperative follow-up.

During a facial aesthetic consultation with Op. Dr. Behçet Şahin, appropriate surgical options should be evaluated according to the patient’s facial anatomy and individual signs of aging.

The primary goal of Facelift in Istanbul is not to transform the face into an entirely different appearance, but to restore age-related changes in facial contours while respecting the patient’s natural expression and anatomical characteristics.
